tree carving
I always wonder if lovers who carve their names in trees are still together. Maybe there’s a technique to it, like the deeper the carving, the stronger the love. No, that’s silly; nonsensical even.
Regardless of technique, I’m sure the carving represents a token of their eternal love for one another, no different than a wedding band, and that, too, will allow the world to see how true love can stand the test of time, long after their particles have dematerialized and dispersed amongst the cosmos.
Or maybe it just serves as a constant reminder of a time when they loved without restriction, both overly cautious to not make the same mistake again for a heart that is once broken may always be off a beat or two.
I hope for the sake of the next tree it worked out the first time.
